Plant Doctor (Photo Diagnosis Tool)

If you use our Plant Doctor tool at /plant-doctor/, we process the following:

  • Your plant photo, the optional note you write and your answers to the follow-up questions, to produce the diagnosis.
  • Your email address, to send a one-time verification code and to count your free diagnoses per month. We do not send you anything else unless you separately tick the box to join the app waitlist.
  • Your IP address, to limit how many photos can be checked per day and prevent abuse.
  • A session cookie (pd_session) that keeps you verified for up to 30 days. It is strictly necessary for the tool and is not used for tracking or advertising.

Service providers involved:

  • Anthropic (Claude API) analyzes the photo, note and answers to generate the diagnosis. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
  • Resend delivers the verification email.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks that requests come from a person rather than a bot.

Retention:

  • Photos are deleted automatically within 24 hours.
  • Verification codes expire after 10 minutes and are then deleted.
  • Diagnosis results linked to your email are kept for up to 13 months so the monthly limit can be enforced, then deleted.
  • Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • If you tick "email me in 14 days", we send one check-in email about that diagnosis and store your answer. Feedback (thumbs up/down) is stored with the diagnosis record.
